Lake Nebagamon and
the Bolognesi Cheese Empire

Count Guilio Bolognesi, Italian Counsel General in Chicago fell in love with the Nebagamon area and established the Stella Cheese Co. on a site near the laundromat overlooking the lake on Highway B. Emilio Bolognesi , brother of the Count, served as secretary of the company, and is shown here with employee Del Arnold, father of former postmaster Bill Arnold. Hundreds of cheese wheels cure on racks . The Bolognesi house became the Lake Nebagamon headquarters for the Duquesne University Tamburitzans during the decades of summers that the young performers rehearsed their programs. It is now once again a private residence.
